Leicestershire Schools
Pre-School Children
If your family is of pre-school age, the provision of quality childcare is invaluable. Not only for your child's social development but to give you the freedom to work, with the knowledge they are is receiving the best possible care.
The region is an accredited Investor in Children and is home to ‘Playgroup of the Year' and ‘National Childminder of the Year'.
Currently there are 1,510 Ofsted registered providers offering 23,120 places. That equates to a 1:2.4 ratio of fulltime childcare places to children - well above the national average.
Primary Schools
The choice of primary schools ranges from small village schools with fewer than 150 pupils to large primaries of more than 500. There are also 21 independent schools, each with a long and illustrious history of fine education. These included Oakham, Uppingham, Leicester and Loughborough.
As you would expect in a region with such a history of rich cultural diversity, you'll find many specific faith schools.
Secondary Schools
In Leicestershire, the schools rank consistently among the top performing areas nationally in terms of performance at Key Stage 3, scoring above average on all subjects. There is a constant drive for even higher standards.
In the city, the face of learning is changing with the council's Raising Achievement Plan, which is building upon the success of 2008 where performance of pupils in both primary and secondary schools improved more rapidly than the national average.
The Building Schools for the Future programme is entering the second phase of a £325 million investment rebuilding or remodeling every secondary school in the city, creating 21st century learning environments which engage and inspire pupils, staff and people in the community.
